The BMW E23 745i Turbo was a classic icon of the 1980s, and it still stands as a testament to the engineering capabilities of the Bavarian Motor Works.

The 745i Turbo was the first BMW model to feature a turbocharger, and it was also the first BMW to feature a 6 cylinder engine – M106 with an electronicallycontrolled fuel injection system. The 745i Turbo was an impressive luxury sedan, with an impressive performance package that made it a fun car to drive. The 745i Turbo was first released in 1980 with the 3.2 liter M102 and updated in 1983 to the 3.4 liter M106 engine, and it was an instant hit with BMW enthusiasts. It was powered by a 3.4 liter inline 6 cylinder engine with a KKK turbocharger, and it was capable of producing up to 252 horsepower, 380 N-M .

This was a huge jump from the standard E23 735i, which only had a 3.2 liter inline 6 cylinder engine with a single carburetor. The turbocharged engine made the 745i Turbo a much more powerful car, and it was capable of reaching a top speed of 155 mph.

The 745i is a classic icon of the mid1980s and is still sought after by luxury car enthusiasts. It was the first BMW sedan to offer a turbocharged engine and was the top of the line model for BMW at the time. The 745i turbo was a symbol of luxury and power and is still considered to be a classic icon in the automotive world.

The ultimate Road tripper

Excitement abounds as we prepare for our road trip adventure! We had researched thoroughly to ensure that we chose the perfect vehicle, and the E23 was one of the classics that stood out as a top contender.

This car has a truly remarkable story imported by a prosperous Mexican family in the late 80‘s, it served the owner and his family faithfully for many years before being brought to the USA to cruise the southern highway. The 745i was handed down to a car enthusiast grandchild with the hope to restore it to its former glory.

It eventually was listed for sale, as a running project, and that‘s when my friend Sam, and I, a longtime dreamer of owning this icon, caught wind of it. After some arrangements, the car arrived in the UK and has since been undergoing a complete restoration.

Currently, it’s in the body shop for a fresh coat of paint and some added personal touches.

Will this legendary car be ready in time for our amazing road trip? Only time will tell – keep an eye out for updates on the progress!
